What is The MTG Codex?
The MTG Codex is a free Magic: The Gathering web app for managing collections, scanning cards, building and analyzing decks, and playing with friends. It also includes a mobile life and counter tracker for games with physical cards. Card data and regularly updated prices come from Scryfall.
Is The MTG Codex free?
Yes. Collection management, scanning, deck building, playtesting, deck suggestions and Pro Analysis are free, with no monthly usage limits for verified accounts.
Can I playtest MTG decks with friends?
Yes. On a computer, Play lets you goldfish a deck solo, pilot several of your own decks, or invite friends to a multiplayer room with up to four players. Rooms share the battlefield while hands and libraries stay private. The playtest table is in beta and includes a rules helper; some card effects still need manual handling.
What does Play do on a phone or tablet?
On a phone or tablet, Play opens the table tracker for games with physical cards. It supports two to four players and tracks life, commander damage, poison, energy and other counters. The virtual playtest table is designed for computers.
